cake dummies

Cake blanks. That is what I called them. Those darn styrofoam things that are the shape and size of a cake. Where could I find them? The craft store was a thought, but no. They had one inch high round ones but to make 4 inches would cost 20 dollars or more. Is that worth having a styrofoam layer when a cake is way less? And yet I know that bakeries use them. I have a wedding coming up and they want it all on styrofoam! What was I going to do?
Thankfully there is this wonderful thing called google. Would you guess what I found out, they are more commonly called... hint look at the title of this post :) Thats right! Cake dummies. What a name :) (as long as that isnt what people call me)
I had a crazy time sifting though all the sites to find the best price. I think I found it today. http://www.dallas-foam.com/store/cakedummies.html
I can order on line and they only have a 10 dollar minimum order! the shiping is calculated differently cause of how big some of them get. They also do other things besides cake dummies so if anyone wants to order something from them and it isnt enough to make it worth the shipping let me know and maybe I will need something and we can go in together :)
Anyway I am stoked to find a place that has what I need and I can order online, I just had to share my good news.

Happy Birthday Kevin

Wow we look young :)

This week was my sweethearts birthday. I know all will be surprised that he had....no...cake, *gasp* I know it is horrible but I did ask him if he wanted one and he said no. I hope it wasn't a "no you dont have to make me one if you don't want to" but a "no, I really don't want a cake this year"
I have found that even after 11 years of marriage that we still don't have the best communication on some things :)
I have enjoyed our lives together and am happy to get to share his ## birthday, I also look forward to spending may more birthdays with him in the future!
He had school on his birthday so we went out on Monday as a family to dinner, on his birthday his parents took all of us to Leatherbys for ice cream when he got back from school and then the day after my parents took us to Tepanyaki for dinner. What a fun week! thanks Mom's and Dad's.
I hope Kevin knows how proud we all are of him, how much his family loves him and how the kids really look up to him!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KEVIN!!!

While he was at school the kids and I made a banner to surprise him when he got back.

Waiting for him to come home. . . and waiting. . . .

Surprise!!!!
(hiding and jumping out was totally the kids idea)

Bird Blog

Weeks ago I had a bad experience when I found a nest with new born baby birds on the ground under a tree in my front yard, I thought I had killed them with my watering. After appologizing and crying while puting them in a box (using a spoon) I noticed they all were moving... I had thought at least one had died. So I decided to put them back in the tree and see what would happen. Thankfully the parents came back

Here is one on the nest

the next ones I took a few hours after I put them back in the tree.

next is 2 days later

and a couple of days after that.

I couldnt get any better or later pics while they were in the nest, as the babies got older the parents became more protective and started dive bombing me when I got too close for their comfort, and that comfort zone kept expanding every day

and when they left the nest

I was startled by this one when I took the trash out. I learned just how protective the parents are. As I was taking pics the baby went to the street and as a car came, it got too close for the dad(?) and he attacked the truck the way he would me when I got too close.

This guy got stuck in our window sill... the parents knew so I just left him there.

I also had many opportunities to take pics of the momma and poppa birds too
