cake deconstructed

Last night I got to go to Wicked! While I loved it, I also had a cake to make for today. Janna, the birthday girl wanted a pirate ship... not just any pirate ship but a pink one!
This is the final product.

Here it is before the pirates booty

Now before the sails, railing and wheel

And before the "wood" details

Finally the beginning carving stage, I used the scraps for the island.

I totally forgot!

I did this cake a while ago for my cousin (the one who also got the basket ball cake) The logos are teams he likes. The b-ball one was just for him and this one was to share with his family.

I was most excited about the bear logo, it is hand painted with black food coloring on orange fondant. I also had fun with the AFA logo the leaves are 3 individually cut shapes then stacked the way you see them.

I had sooo much fun making this cake! It was the first one I have ever had a hard time letting go :) Thank you Heidi for having me do this for Jon!!!

I'm a little tea pot...

Thanks again for the positive comments left on my last post, I am looking forward to posting the cake in a few months! Now here is a cake I did this week for a friends daughter. I believe it was a second birthday.

The whole thing is cake, pound cake. Pound cake holds its shape well so you can contour the bottom unlike a less dense cake. So no Styrofoam in this cake! The flowers, handle and spout are fondant.

Imput Please

I am practicing for a wedding cake in June that has gum paste flowers on it. I really would like to know what people think of this first flower I have done.

The pics are blurry cause the camera on my phone doesnt zoom and the closer I get the more out of focus the pic.
Thank you in advance for any comments given.

Easter Egg Hunt

I had my second yearly Easter egg hunt the day before Easter and it was a blast! The kids were so fun to watch. I filled hundreds of eggs with toys and candy (my apologies to the Moms) When the kids got here I had baskets for them to decorate with foam stickers. When all were here and done with the decorating we let them loose in the back yard

by age group :)

they searched and searched till there were no more. Funny side note; after Harrison spotted the egg on the door, he shook the door till the egg fell... and broke open

Elijah and Bella were downstairs playing when we sent the kids out so I walked around and asked the kids if I could take a few back so they could collect them when we figured out they were missing. All were kind enough to share!

all baskets were at least this full! Every kids dream!

Checking out the treasures that wait inside!

Next it was time for the egg fight, a tradition in my family growing up, heck even after Easter if we wanted to eat a boiled egg we tried to find someone to egg fight with! I even remember when

I had no one willing or around I would egg fight my self... I wonder if I was the only one who did that...

The expert, teaching the youngins

There were 3 gold and 3 silver eggs that has a # in them which corresponded to a big prize, the way things were shared I think all were winners though!

Finally as they were leaving I had one more gift for all the kids,

a 3D cookie! these cookies are about 5 in tall and who knows how thick! I had such a blast making them and wish I had had more dough and time to make the adults one also. Hopefully they got the kids to share with them! I know of one child who didnt wait till he got home to eat his... or the plastic to come off for that matter!

Every one of my nieces and nephews came, thank you all! thanks to the parents for getting them there and thank you Daniel for the wonderful pictures!

I cant wait for next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

happy Easter!

Today is Easter and I am thankful for this day in many ways. First the sun is shining and it is beautiful!
Second, yesterday is in the past :) What a busy day it was too. In the morning I did the MS walk, then hosted an egg hunt for my nieces and nephews, and last went to my Grandmas Easter party in the evening. All in all it was a good day.
Third is the blessing in my life the knowledge of my Savior has been. Easter is a bittersweet time for me knowing what He went through and knowing that he loves me enough to do it. I am truly thankful for Him and to my Father in heaven for making it possible to be in their presence one day!
Happy Easter to all and may we all try to live our lives to the fullest while remembering to be the best we can be to honor His sacrifice for us.

Ganache... yum

This is the most recent wedding cake I have done and after a week where I made 6 cakes I think I will take a small break.
This was for a cousin of my husband who got married on Mar 28.
I am always glad and nervous to make a wedding cake for reasons I am sure I have mentioned before. This cake was different, I am not sure why. Maybe because I actually practiced it. All I know is that I was pretty sure she would like it.

now on to birthday cakes :) and maybe blogging about something besides cake once in a while!
