A little fishy?

My brother-in-law's birthday was last week and we celebrated on Sunday with a birthday dinner. I decided to make him a fun cake. He likes fish and has a nice tank so I though this would be an appropriate cake for him.

He has had a run of bad luck in the past with fish dieing so the joke that night is that it would look more like his tank if some of the fish were upside down.

It was decorated all out of buttercream except the figures which were gumpaste pressed into a mold. The cake was chocolate and filled with raspberry.

I cant get used to the different look that buttercream gives so I have a hard time seeing this cake as well done cause it is not as fine a work as you get with fondant. I am going to keep practicing though.

the inside

Here is the inside of the fudge draped cake.

It was so very yummy!!!

aaaaah!!!!

Again we are dealing with the bickering and I have had it! I have no idea why children cant listen to their parents. Why they think we know nothing. My children should respect my wisdom more than I respected my parents... right? No, you say? They have to push boundaries, you say? It serves me right for what I put my parents through? (my mom says that) well I will show them!

unfortunately they still think I am not very smart. They are supposed to be cleaning the bathroom and the solution to the tape is to close the door and hum angrily at each other. As if the door is a soundproof barrier and I wont hear that.
I guess it might be time to tie them together.
The tape did come off easily and I made sure the kids could breath and it was on only 15 min for all those who think this was harsh. I was able to think and sadly the kids just thought it was funny. So much for a learning experience. See the mess in the back ground of the picture? That is just a portion of what needs to be done today. Guess I better get back to work!

practice session

Check it out!!! I tried something new and it worked!!!
This is a practice run for a future wedding cake and of course I had to figure out the best way to do it on my own. I think it turned out nice and now I get to eat it tomorrow. Inside is chocolate cake on one side vanilla on the other and swirled in the center. I also used three fillings, raspberry on the chocolate side, strawberry with the swirled and lemon on the vanilla side.
Can we say YUM?

I will post pics of the inside when I eat it.

Got spring?

The last 2 days have been so nice the kids have played outside with no jacket and attempted to go shoeless.... being the good mom that i am I changed their minds about the shoe thing :) We had beautiful 60 degree weather and were all looking forward to spring. The kids even started begging for the trampoline to be put back up.
Oh how sweet and naive children can be. Of course because the weather was so nice that meant winter was a thing of the past, a dim memory, right? Well I woke up to the sound of breaking hearts and crushed enthusiasm this morning... oh and the added problem of a missing coat. This is what was waiting for the kids when they looked out the back door.

Thankfully we found the coat in the car (well where else would it be) and got the kids to school, even a little early! This was what met me first thing.

I am so not a morning person and this weather make me want to go straight back to bed even more than usual! I decided a good way to stay up would be to post this blog.
One last picture,

Before I get comments, Yes that is s TV, not mine but I guess someone thought I wouldn't notice if they put it in my driveway. The last 2 years we have had a large pile of junk there for the bins they drop off in March so maybe someone who knew this figured by now we would have covered it and tossed the TV with our own trash. oh well!
Now if spring would stop teasing my kids and me all would be grrrreat!
