My amazing oldest child has turned 11! I am shocked I am that old!
Isn't it great that we, as parents turn everything around to be about us, lol.
The story;
11 years ago I was having my first baby and not knowing just what to expect like all first timers. The due date was Oct 10 and my sister in law liked to say that I would have him on her birthday (Oct 16) I said no way this baby was going to be early not late! I think this could be the classic be careful what you wish for.
On the day I reached 30 weeks (31 I thought) I was having gas pain, Kevin was working for his Uncle and had left early that morning. I tried everything I could think of, warm baths, eating something and more warm baths.
I finally called my mom cause I was hurting and wanted her to be there. I was living in South Salt Lake and she was in South Jordan, for those who don't know that is about 25 to 30 min drive. Kevin had the car so I couldn't drive to her house. She wasn't feeling well and couldn't come to me. My sister Lisa was at moms house and she offered to come get me. Not long after that my water broke, Mom calmed me down and reminded me that my sister was on the way, she also called the Dr to let her know I was coming to the hospital. My Dr wasn't there but the on call Dr. called me and said not too nicely that I should have come in sooner... well duh isn't hindsight so wonderful? I went back to talking to my mom while waiting for my sister and during a quiet moment another call came in, It was a friend of Kevin's that he hadn't seen since high school, I asked him to call Kevin at work and tell him I was going to Cottonwood hospital. As soon as I got back to mom I had another contraction and felt a head coming. I freaked out, Mom again calmed me down and told me to call 911 as there was nothing else she could do for me.
I confused the poor 911 operator though, she asked me where I was and I told her in the front room then later I told her I was leaning over the bed, we had a futon in the front room that was laid out in a bed but that didn't make any sense to her :) Soon I was able to feel the top of the baby's head hair and all, I asked her if they were there yet and she asked me if the door was unlocked. I though it was. She then asked me if I could see the head..... uh, I thought, what am I a giraffe? I told her I could feel it so she started to instruct me in how to clear the airways but I was determined to wait till the paramedics came! sadly when they got there the door was locked, they kicked it in and got there just in time to catch my sweet boy.
we were rushed to St Marks... yes not Cottonwood where Kevin thought I was. He did get the message and made it to me.
There was one unexpected good thing about home delivery though, I got to hold and see my baby the whole way to the hospital. If I had been there I would have had to wait till I was recovered enough to go to the NICU. Also an amazing story!
My Knighton came in to this world with such a gusto and has been the best son and brother ever! He has such a love for his brother and sisters, has always showed much patience with them.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KNIGHTON!!!
